At Complete Carpet Co in Melbourne, we source factory-direct carpets as well as selling A-grade seconds and discontinued products from our Blackburn and Bayswater stores. We are able to secure our customers the best deals, whatever their budgets and tastes.
There’s no escaping the fact that for comfort, warmth and luxury, a high-quality, long-pile wool carpet is the most pampering surface to walk on. An ideal floor surface for extra warmth and insulation in your bedroom, a carpet like this is an investment that can last years if properly fitted and maintained.
Denier And How It Affects Carpet Quality
Most carpets have a denier of between 900 and 2,400. This measurement tells the buyer that each strand of fibre used in the weaving of the carpet is between 900 and 2,400 times thicker than a single strand of natural silk. Its main purpose is to tell you how dense the pile of the carpet is likely to be, particularly when combined with the number of strands used in each inch of carpet and the number of filaments in those fibre strands.
As a rule of thumb, a higher denier often means a more luxurious carpet, but clever carpet design chiefly focuses on combining a high denier with durable fibres and high-quality weaving. Denier is a useful measurement to know, but it isn’t the sole indicator of a carpet’s quality.
Fabulous Fibres
Wool is, without doubt, the most sought-after and luxurious carpet fabric. Water and stain resistant, naturally fire retardant, and resistant to abrasion and compression, wool has long been the preferred carpeting fabric, with most synthetic fibres seeking to mimic its feel and properties. Most woven carpet is made from either 100% pure new wool or a blend of 80% wool and 20% synthetic fibres. Big-name carpets like Axminster and Wilton are woven carpets made entirely or primarily from wool and have a deserved and sustained reputation for durability and luxury.
Perfect Pile
A velvet cut-pile carpet is soft, smooth and luxurious underfoot, with straight fibres that enable it to show light and dark shading. The effect in a room is particularly luxurious and it’s especially well-suited to bedrooms.
For a deeper pile, a Saxony carpet is a popular choice for bedrooms. The deep pile is sensuous, however it is difficult to clean and will flatten underneath heavy furniture, so it is less suitable if you are a fan of rearranging your room layout regularly. Saxony carpet can be a surprisingly affordable luxury option, as it is likely to be made from polyester rather than wool; the pile benefits from the glossy sheen offered by polyester fibres. However, polyester is less resistant to dirt and may fail to hold its colour as well as wool and wool blends.
