Looking through the big-name brands that we stock at our carpet company in Melbourne, and there’s a trend that might not be obvious to everyone. Feltex, Godfrey Hirst, Tuftmaster and Victoria Carpets, although well known nationally and internationally, are all headquartered right here in Melbourne.
The relationships we have built up over time with these manufacturers are one of the reasons why we our able to offer such high quality and affordable products through our commercial carpet sales. Working with local suppliers reduces transportation costs, boosts the Victorian economy and creates a nimble and flexible supply chain. All of these factors save businesses money and mean our carpet and rug store can pass these savings on to you, the customer.
Storing bulky rolls of carpet and transporting them is costly in terms of fuel and vehicle costs, the use of warehousing, and loading and unloading time. Having an outlet close at hand that can take stock and sell it on quickly reduces these overheads and smoothes out the peaks and troughs of demand for our local carpet manufacturers.
Godfrey Hirst Carpet
The 140-year-old Godfrey Hirst Company has developed a fully integrated system, bringing everything from fibre-making to delivery in-house. This gives them control and flexibility. However, they opt to use carefully selected retailers like Complete Carpet Co to sell their products to the consumer. Despite their 33-hectare manufacturing plant at Geelong, Godfrey Hirst relies exclusively on retailers to sell their product, including A-grade seconds and discontinued ranges. Godfrey Hirst makes thousands of metres of carpet every day, so a reliable point of sale for every item they produce is critical to their bottom line.
Victoria Carpets
To be fair, you might have guessed that Victoria Carpets is local. Their three sites in the state enable them to produce a huge range of carpet styles and types, from traditional wool to the latest smart synthetic blends. They currently own two yarn mills and are rightly proud of the speed with which they can turn a cutting-edge design into a carpet ready to fit into your home or commercial space. Like Godfrey Hirst, Victoria Carpets is vertically integrated, with only the sales element of their company left to trusted retailers.
Tuftmaster Carpets and Feltex Carpets
In comparison to Hirst and Victoria Carpets, Tuftmaster and Feltex are relative newcomers to the Victorian carpet manufacturing industry. Both have, however, made a name for themselves in both residential and commercial carpets. Feltex is distinguished by its bold colours and patterns and is one of the largest manufacturers of carpet in Australasia. Tuftmaster has been making wool and nylon carpets for 40 years and produce simple, elegant flooring of a very high quality.
Having long-established relationships with these local manufacturers makes our carpets more affordable, our after-care second to none and our stock range ever changing. So, call in to either our Blackburn or Bayswater store today to see our full range and competitive prices for yourself.
